Setting up GPG for use with Windows

  1. Open a web browser and go to winpt.sourceforge.net
  2. Click "Download"
  3. Under "WinPT Windows Privacy Tools- Complete Package" Click on "1.0rc2 Second release candidate"

  4. Choose a location to use a source for the download, i.e. Minneapolis, MN.

  5. In the "File Download" screen, choose to "Save" the file

  6. Choose where you want the file save and click "Save"

  7. In "Download complete screen" click "Close"

  8. Double click on the "WinPT install" icon on your desktop
  9. In the Welcome Screen, click "Next"
  10. Click "I agree" and click "Next"
  11. In the Information Screen, click "Next"
  12. Select the location to save the files and click "Next"

  13. In the "Choose Components" window select the following items and click "Next"

  14. In the Select Start Menu folder, click "Next"
  15. In the "Select Additional Tasks" screen make sure "Program Language" is English. Click "Next"
  16. In the "Select Additional Tasks" screen make sure "Official GnuPG.org" is checked and click "Next".

  17. Click "Install"
  18. In the "Completing Windows Privacy Tools Setup" uncheck "show Readme" and "Run Windows Privacy Tools"

  19. Click "Finish"
  20. Go to the Start Menu and choose "Run..." Type "command" in the Open box and click OK.
  21. Type "cd \Program Files\Windows Privacy Tools\GnuPG"
  22. Type "gpg -help" to make sure gpg is operating (you should see all the help output). If you do not, your install did not go correctly.
  23. If you currently have PGP keys proceed to next section "Converting PGP tp GPG"
  24. If you do not currently have PGP keys you will need to create a new key-pair. To do this type "gpg --gen-key"
  25. Type "exit" to close the command prompt.
  26. Reboot your computer.

Converting PGP to GPG

  1. Open your PGP Key Ring and select all of the keys that appear.
  2. Go to Keys>Export
  3. In the save in box select c:/gnupg and check the box "Include Private Keys"
  4. Click "Open"

  5. Click "Save"
  6. Go to Start>Run
  7. Type "cmd" and click "OK"
  8. Type "cd gnupg" to navigate to gnupg directory
  9. Type "gpg --allow-secret-key-import --import "Exported PGP Key(s).asc""
  10. Type "gpg --list-keys" to make sure the keys were properly imported.
  11. Type "gpg --list-secret-keys"
  12. Type "exit" to close the command prompt.
  13. Reboot your computer
